Scholarship for Hungarian Students and Researchers 2018

Goals and Objectives

 

In February 6, 2017 a new program agreement was signed between the Ministry of Human Capacity of Hungary and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia to support the Stipendium Hungaricum for 2017-2020. 

The Scholarship Program for Hungarian Students and Researchers 2018 (hereinafter, the Program) offers up to ten scholarships to citizens of Hungary, who wish to study or conduct researches at the selected Georgian universities. The Program is administered by the LEPL International Education Center, Georgia and the Tempus Public Foundation, Hungary. 

In 2018 applicants from Hungary can apply for long and short-term courses, offered by the following Georgian higher education institutions – Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University and Grigol Robakidze University.

 

 

Course Offerings

 

Course offerings display university providers, chief components, timeframes and other details of each course/program. Applicants can select courses/programs from the list below. Questions related to specific courses/programs should be addressed to respective lecturers or program coordinators. 

Applicants may also apply for an independent short or long-term study or research projects. In this case, it is within the sole responsibility of an applicant to contact relevant department of Georgian university in order to tailor individual study or research program for the applicant. 


Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University

1. Ancient History and Archaeology of Georgia

The course introduces to the archaeology of Georgia, its history, chronology and provides general view to the sites from the early Paleolithic period to the Medieval time ( 12th – 13th cc ). The course encompasses 7 lectures. The first introductory lecture will be followed by classroom meetings, offering overview of cultures and archeological sites belonging to Stone, Early, Middle and Late Bronze and Iron Ages in Georgia and discussing cultural developments in Caucasus under Greek rule; Roman time in Colchis and Iberia; beginning of Christianity and medieval culture of Georgia.



2. Ethnography of Caucasus

The course aims at providing general information on Caucasus region, its geographic features; ethnic, linguistic and religious identity of its habitants and cultural differences and similarities between them; ethno-cultural transformations taking place in the region; life in modern era. The course analyzes life support, economic and socio-normative culture of Caucasians, their systems of religious values and other acute problems. 



3. Ethnography of Georgia

The course offers full ethnographic description of Georgia: brief historical ethnographic overview, illustrative description-analysis of all elements of lifestyle, traditional cultural features and transformation outcomes in Soviet and Post-soviet Georgia, analysis of current acute problems (minorities, religious identities, migration and other issues).



4. Politics of South Caucasian States after the dissolution of the USSR

The course is aimed at introducing students with the social, political and economic events and trends that occurred in and around the South Caucasus republics (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) since the break-up of the Soviet Union as well as how the interests of the outside powers shape the developments in the Region.



5. Regional Security and Conflicts in the South Caucasus

Course will outline major political developments of the last decades occurring in the South Caucasus region mainly from comparative politics and international relations perspective. In the first part of the course, the centre-periphery relations that existed during the soviet-union period and after its demise will be discussed. Particular attention will be paid to the soviet style ethno-federalism and its consequences for the region's security, state building, foreign policy trajectories and democratization processes. In the second part, foreign policy choices and their implications on security and democratic state building of three regional countries will be analyzed.



6. Regional European Neighborhood Policy

The course intends to provide students firstly with a clear understanding of the structure of the European Union (EU) along with its foreign policy strategy towards post-Soviet space, particularly the counties in the South Caucasus; secondly, it aims to further elucidate the gradual engagement of the EU with the countries of South Caucasus after the Soviet Union's collapse; thirdly, the course’s goal is to discuss the major challenges that EU faces internally and externally on its way to establish closer relations with the South Caucasian countries; and finally, the focus will be devoted to the ongoing debates around the EU's Eastern Policy effectiveness, mainly in areas such as regional security, energy policy, conflict resolution, trade, democratization and economic development.




7. Citizenship and Migrations: Central and Eastern Europe in Focus

Citizenship and migration represents major international topics in the world today. The course aims at introducing the students to the field of citizenship and migration studies and to the related concepts of diaspora and transnationalism. The influence of migrations over citizenship and the citizenship policies of the states over migrations is often underestimated. The course will examine these reciprocal influences and consequential social transformations. The course will encourage the discussions about citizenship and migrations from the bottom-up perspectives. Along with bringing the most recent theoretical and normative debates of citizenship and migrations to the course, it will also focus on practical case studies from East-Central and Post-Soviet Europe, as well as special session will be devoted to discussing the case of Georgia.




Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University 

1. Summer School Sustainable Tourism: Agriculture and Cultural Heritage

The summer school brings together professors from the Batumi State University, Kutaisi State University, University of Southeast Norway, Kirgiz universities and Batumi Maritime Academy.
The first half of the summer school is held at the Kutaisi State University and the second is hosted by the Batumi State University. In addition to lectures, the summer school arranges visits to touristic sites of Imereti and Adjara regions of Georgia.



2. Summer School Digital Humanities – E-documents of Language and Culture

The summer school is run in cooperation with the Goethe University Frankfurt. The summer school offers interdisciplinary program on principles and methods of digital humanities. It exposes participants to Georgian and international e-resources and facilitates development of skills for conducting field researches. Participants will be able to attend lectures delivered by Georgian and European scholars, record materials during expedition organized by the summer school and then digitalize them in compliance with international standards; make presentations based on acquired theoretical knowledge and conducted practical work.
The summer school accommodates the workshop on digital humanities, which will take place on 27-29 of August and will host German and Austrian experts.





Grigol Robakidze University

1. A Certificate Program in Business Administration

A certificate program in Business Administration offers an in-depth introduction to business administration. Participants will learn: theoretical, as well a practical approaches for managing individuals and teams to increase organizational effectiveness; techniques for identifying and addressing marketing challenges and opportunities; how to perform a strategic business analysis and measure, long-range goals; how to analyze and interpret financial statements, estimate investment projects and make an intelligent decision. 

After completion of all courses, participants take will take a test. Upon successful completion of the test, participants will receive certificates.



2. Certificate Program in Hotel Management

The program provides insights for both hospitality workers and those looking to begin a career in a supremely dynamic industry.
With no prior experience or knowledge required, Hotel Management Certificate Program, starts out with an introduction to hospitality in general before moving onto accommodation types and guest expectations. Candidates are then taken through each of the most important management areas of the hotel – investigations of the specific duties of the front desk, reservation, housekeeping, back office, housekeeping, food & beverage departments, human resource management, essential quality control theory and a basic overview of hotel accountancy and sales & marketing department.
After completion of all courses, participants take will take a test. Upon successful completion of the test, participants will receive certificates



3. Certificate Program in Global Public Administration and International Relations

The program focuses on those legal and political problems, which are connected with historical development and functioning of international organizations. It covers activities of United Nations and other specific international and regional organizations. Basic topics of the training course are the following: protection of human rights, dispute resolution, and justice and enforcement issues within the international organizations operations. While reviewing aforesaid issues, parallels between functioning of various organizations will be made. Among the other issues the following will be discussed: The United Nations, its specialized agencies and institutes, Council of Europe, the European Union, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the International Criminal Court, and the Human Rights Committee. During the course due attention will be paid to problems related to functional and international legal capacity of transnational corporations and international non-governmental organizations, also to privileges and immunities of governmental organizations.



4. Summer School in Human Rights Law

Prerequisite: applicant should be a law school student 
The Constitutional Court of Georgia and the Grigol Robakidze University co-organize summer school in Human Rights Law. The summer school offers comparative analysis of standards of judicial reviews in U.S. and in Europe. The summer school also explores Constitutional Standards of Penal Policy; Proportionality/Standards of restrictions of Human Rights and EU Constitutional Law.

 

 

Application procedure and timeline

Application opens on 10th of May, 2018 and closes on 5th of June, at 18:00 Central European Time (20:00 Georgian time).

Applicants have to register and upload all required documents in the electronic portal of the LEPL International Education Center on the following link https://app.iec.gov.ge/en/ When registering, an applicant has to untick the box “Citizen of Georgia”.

The electronic application system enables applicants to save data for next session and to edit applications before the deadline. After editing, application has to be sent again. No editing is allowed after the deadline.

All required documents must be uploaded. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Eligibility criteria:
Candidates must be adult citizens of Hungary and should either hold or currently be studying for BA, MA, or PHD degree.

Requested Documents: 
a) Photo;
b) Copy of Passport; 
c) CV; 
d) Candidates who have earned their BA, MA, PhD degree: Copy of Diploma and Academic Transcript;
e) Candidates who are currently studying towards their BA, MA or PhD degrees: Statement of Student Status and Academic Transcript;
f) Certificate of Work Experience; 
g) One Reference submitted by a Referee though Online Reference System (Please, note that an applicant will not be able to submit an application, until a referee sends a reference letter);
h) Statement of Purpose;
i) English Language Certificate;
j) Certificates, Publications (not compulsory)

All documents have to be submitted electronically. No hardcopies are allowed. Documents executed in foreign language other than Georgian or English, should be presented with notarized Georgian or English translations.

 

 

Selection criteria and selection board

Scholarship award decisions are taken by selection boards of respective Georgian universities. 

Selection process embraces two stages:
First – Formal check of applications against eligibility criteria by the International Education Center. Incomplete applications are rejected. The International Education Center may ask to clarify submitted documents. Applications meeting formal requirements are submitted to relevant Georgian universities by the International Education Center.

Second –Interview conducted Georgian universities. Applicants outside of Georgia will be interviewed via skype or other technical arrangement.

 
 
Scholarship

The scholarship is provided by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and covers tuition fee waivers, 800 GEL and medical insurance.
